Distinction between block chains and the Internet

首先，网络结构不同。互联网是一种分布式和集中管理的数据库模型，也就是说，使用较小的计算机系统，每台计算机都可以放在一个单独的地方，并拥有自己的本地数据库。许多位于不同地方的计算机通过网络连接起来，形成一个完整的、全球逻辑集中的、物理分布的大型数据库；区块链完全复制和分发所有数据。它通过共识机制协调每个节点更新数据。数据不属于公司或平台，其特点是分散。

First, the network structure is different. The Internet is a distributed and centrally managed database model, that is, using a smaller computer system, each computer can be located in a separate location and have its own local database. Many computers located in different locations are connected through the network to form a full, global, logical, physically distributed large database; the block chain reproduces and distributes all data completely. It coordinates the updating of data for each node through a consensus mechanism. The data is not a company or platform, but it is decentralized.

Fifthly, different approaches to governance. The Internet governance model is determined centrally by the owner of the site; decentralization of block chain governance is decided by the community as a whole.

Seventh, technological maturity varies. Internet technology is highly mature, stable, and large in capacity. Block chain technology is still at an early stage, with less performance and less capacity.

Eighth, the operator is different. The Internet is operated by an Internet company, and the block chain is operated by the community or DAD.

Features of block chains

Despite different language descriptions in different presentations, block chain technology has four common technical features.

First, there is no centre. Unlike the central network mode of the Internet, the block chain consists of many nodes to form end-to-end networks. There is no centralized equipment and management structure. If any node stops, the overall operation of the system will not be affected.

Second, trust among networks. All nodes in the block chain system are validated through digital signature technology, leading to an inter-network consensus that addresses the issue of mutual trust between networks. Nodees cannot and cannot deceive other nodes as long as they are traded in accordance with the established rules of the system.

The third is collective maintenance. Block chain systems are jointly maintained by all nodes with maintenance functions, and everyone in the system is involved in maintenance.

The fourth is a secure database. Each node in the block chain system has a complete and up-to-date copy of the database. Changes to the database by individual nodes or even multiple nodes cannot affect the database of other nodes unless more than 51% of the nodes in the entire network can be controlled and modified simultaneously, which is almost impossible. Each transaction in the block chain is connected to two adjacent blocks by encryption technology, and can therefore be traced back to the past and present of any transaction.
